Understanding Clear Coat Correction

Some may refer to Paint Correction as 'buffing' or 'polishing,' but these terms oversimplify the meticulous approach taken to paint restoration and refinement.

While buffing and polishing are steps within the correction process, true paint correction involves carefully leveling the clear coat, refining the surface, and restoring clarity to the paint. Unlike a simple "Buff N' Wax" job (which may temporarily mask defects), proper correction permanently removes imperfections through a controlled, multi-step process.

Defects: Swirl marks, scratches, etching, paint contamination, or paintwork imperfections such as debris and runs in the paint;

anything that prevents the finish from being flawless.

Defects are generally not "taken out",  but rather corrected by precisely leveling the clear coat down to the lowest point of the imperfection. This process restores clarity and depth while leaving behind a smooth, high-gloss finish.

Achieving this level of refinement requires expert technique, high-quality abrasives, and a a deep understanding of how different paint systems respond to correction. Each vehicle is unique, and using the wrong approach can compromise the integrity of the clear coat rather than improve it.

This is why a tailored strategy, proper assessment, and meticulous execution are essential to achieving the highest level results.

We use NO FILLERS or waxes in our correction process, ensuring that you receive true results that won't simply wash away.

Speaking of washing - Proper maintenance is key to preserving your vehicle's finish. We provide expert guidance on safe wash practices, proper aftercare, and recommended products to help prevent damage and ensure your vehicle maintains its refined look for years to come.

The Evaluation

Not all clear coats are created equally, which is why our paint correction is never a one-size-fits-all process.

Clear coat thickness, hardness, and composition vary across manufacturers and even individual vehicles, requiring a tailored approach for the best results. Some clear coats are soft and highly responsive to correction, while others are harder and more resistant to refinement. Environmental factors, previous repairs, and improper maintenance can also affect how the paint reacts to correction, making a careful evaluation essential.

Before we begin, a thorough assessment is conducted to determine the unique characteristics of your vehicle’s paint. Defects and their depths are identified, and the expectations of the final results are clearly communicated. Every vehicle is different, and understanding these nuances ensures a safe and effective correction process.

Using precision techniques, the industries highest quality abrasives, and specialized tools, the correction process is carefully adjusted to restore depth, clarity, and gloss while preserving the integrity of your vehicle’s finish. Each step is performed with the utmost attention to detail, ensuring that no unnecessary material is removed while still achieving the best possible outcome.

This level of customization ensures the most effective results, enhancing your vehicle's appearance for years to come while prioritizing its long-term preservation.

The Options

Correction Options

We present correction options to you not only based on the evaluation of your vehicles condition, but your end goals in mind.

Level 1: The Enhancement

You will often hear this called a "Single Step" or a "one stage" correction, as only a single type of pad/abrasive combination will be relied upon here.

This is an entry-level service to paint correction, as well as a minimum requirement for any Ceramic Coating applications.

This process removes minimal amounts to clear coat, and is geared towards vehicles that have the slightest amount of defects and only require a simple level of refinement to achieve a high-level result.

Level 2:  A Paint Correction

This is what most consumers and detailers alike will consider a "full paint correction."

This approach to scratch/swirl removal that involves 2-3 stages of the correction process; a cutting/compound stage that aims to level down to deeper defects and then polishing/refinement steps that brings the clear coat to a deep gloss and clear, reflective shine.

This is the recommended process for most clients that are looking to get the most from their OEM paintwork, and generally what we recommend prior to Coating or Paint Protection Film applications.

Level 3+: The Paint Perfection

With hundreds of hours of training and years of experience, we're able to bring you a service that truly sets us apart from the rest; pushing your clear coat to its clarity limits.

The process begins with precise paint measurements to determine the available clear coat thickness, allowing us to tailor our correction approach accordingly. From there, we meticulously level the paint using the most appropriate techniques, whether that involves wet sanding, heavy cutting with a rotary, and then further refining the finish with a carefully selected polishing combination.

Achieving perfection takes time. While Level  1 or Level 2 corrections may be completed in a single day, Level 3+ often requires several days to execute properly.

This service is reserved for those seeking the ultimate finish for their classic, exotic, luxury, or show vehicle where perfection is the only option.

Our Standards

While different levels of paint correction may be offered, there is no compromise in quality; only a tailored approach to meet the needs of both the vehicle and its owner.

Not every car requires a multi-stage correction, and not every owner is chasing concours-level results.

That’s why we provide precision-driven options. Whether it’s a Level 1 Enhancement for your daily commuter, a Level 2 Full Correction for those who demand superior clarity, or a Level 3+ Paint Perfection approach for show vehicles where only the absolute best will do...

No matter the level you choose, our commitment to the highest level of results remains the same. Every vehicle, every finish, every time.
